The other day while at Savvy Cellars shopping for wine, I was looking for a drier style Italian white. Richard, the ¨wine guy¨ at Savvy’s recommended this bottle. It is from northern Italy’s Piemonte/Piedmont region, more specifically the DOC (Denominazione di origine controllata) vineyard area of Langhe. The grape varietal is 100% Nascetta, a relatively unknown Langhe white grape.

Veneto is also home to the famous Prosecco Italian sparkling wine and the delicioso Amarone, the Rolls Royce of the Valpolicella wines.

In-home Wine Tasting Series: Piemonte (Piedmont)

When most people think of Italian wine, the first thought that may come to mind is Tuscany. But did you know that besides Tuscany, Piemonte (Piedmont in English) is one of the most famous regions in Italy for wine production? The location is northern Italy, less than two hours southwest of Milan. Barbera, Nebbiolo, and Dolcetto for reds; Moscato, Arneis, and Cortese for whites, these are some of the grape varietals, just to name a few. I’m not sure if this is technically correct or not, but the style, especially the red wines remind me a little of Burgundy. 2007 Castello di Verduno Barbaresco, 2008 Mauro Sebaste Monvigliero Barolo, and 2011 Demarie Langhe Arneis Nebbiolo were some of the ones on the list for this event and were fabulous!

As many times as I’ve visited the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, this weekend was my first time going to MoDA (Museum of Design Atlanta), which is crazy since it’s just across the street! I was there following an invitation posted by Friends of the High Museum of Art meetup group, as Saturday was the opening reception of Barrique: Wine, Design & Social Change.
