Montréal

I find train travel in Canada to be user friendly and convenient. I arrived to Montréal from Toronto by VIA Rail, about a 5 hour ride. The journey was comfortable and if you don’t have a car, the train is a nice option.

Rue St. Catherine was where I landed in Montréal. The neighborhood was perfectly located not far from the Old Town and the Airbnb was just steps from the Métro. I liked that Rue St. Catherine was pedestrian friendly, lined with restaurants and shops and had a lively ambiance especially in the evening.

Rachelle Béry market was just a block away from the Airbnb.

The beers of Quebec are so good and at the neighbhorhood markets such as Rachelle Béry you find so many selections to choose from!

The neighborhood was great!

JEWISH MONTREAL (Located in Mile End neighborhood)

Funny enough, I first learned about Jewish Montréal in Atlanta, at the annual Jewish Film Festival. Chewdaïsm was one of the documentaries presented at this festival. It highlighted the roots of the Jewish community in Montréal through food. These were some of the places that I took note of and made sure to visit during my stay.

Schwartz’s Deli…there’s a reason that there’s always a line, and yes it is worth the wait. I went there late at night, close to 10pm and at that time there were only two or three people ahead of me.

Then there’s Fairmount Bagel and the bagels here are sooooo good!!

Wilensky’s has been around FOREVER and has tasty sandwiches that you can order and eat at the counter (or take to go).

In this same neighborhood Mom and I (and Zoé) then went and did our own bakery tour….

The Mile End neighborhood all around is so charming…

After the hitting all Jewish delis, the next stop was at Cardinal Tea Room for afternoon tea with pastries.

Later it was time for cocktail hour at Bar Henrietta…

Le Jardin de Panos (and this was on a subsequent day of course) is a Greek restaurant that was suggested by a local couple we met while out and about. The food here was perfect. Even mom who is let’s say a little particular, was happy 🙂

Vieux Montréal (Old Town)

This bakery called Olive et Gourmando was recommended to me by one of my neighbors in Atlanta, and they were right on the money with this one. C’est trop bon!

Notre Dame de Montréal

These little streets remind me of Europe

The Old Port (Vieux Port)

If you’re one who enjoys the spa experience, Bota Bota Spa on the water is not to be missed! Unfortunately photos were not allowed once inside and these were the only images I was able to get.

Au revoir Montréal. Next stop is Québec City…
