Many people guess correctly when they think that the name Naples is Italian. The name Naples caught on when early promoters described the bay as “surpassing the bay in Naples, Italy”. The southwest Florida destination gradually became popular during the early 1900’s for fishing and hunting, and as a remote winter retreat for wealthy northerners.

Today, walking through the downtown area feels like being in a European city. The streets are lined with cozy terrace dining, luxury boutiques, art galleries, and beautifully dressed people.

The buildings, along with the pier, are the focal point of Old Naples Florida , a beautiful historic neighborhood loved by residents and tourists alike. Points of interest that should not be missed are: 5th Ave, 3rd Street South, Tin City, Naples Pier, the pristine white sand beaches and parks, and many art festivals that take place year round.

Just about a 30 minute drive from the downtown area is also the lovely Marco Island. Just follow 5th Ave (east)., which is also US 41/Tamiami Trail. Then take a right onto Collier Blvd (south) and that takes you straight to the island!

5th Ave South is my favorite spot for dining options. Most restaurants have cozy terraces that overlook the street where you can watch the passers-by while having a cocktail or dinner. Also, many places offer half-off menus between the hours of 3:00 and 6:00 PM. So be sure to arrive early and enjoy the 50% off deals!
