A Taste of France at Savor Wine Boutique

Situated in the heart of the Kirkwood neighborhood of Decatur is this charming haven for wine lovers. Savor Wine Boutique shares with the community “slow” wines from well-known regions (e.g. Europe, South America, and South Africa) but from small, lesser-known producers. What is a “slow” wine one might ask? Unlike commercial wines that are mass-produced and often contain pesticides/ herbicides, chemical additives, and are mechanically harvested, slow wines, as the name implies like to take their time. They are made naturally and rely more so on terroir-the perfect balance of soil, temperature, location, rainfall, sun and years and years of tradition. These humble and unique wines are what you’ll find here at Savor Wine Boutique.

This was my first time visiting Savor and it was because of a MeetUp group announcement that I first heard about it. On this occasion, we had the pleasure of tasting wines from some of France’s family-run vineyards. The selections included Picpoul de Pinet, rosés, red blends and several others from various regions. The staff is exceptionally friendly and invites locals and visitors to “savor” the wine experience.

The other cool feature about Savor is their cork recycle program. Savor Wine Boutique has partnered with a company who turns spent wine corks into new footwear and other everyday products. The goal is to recycle as many corks as possible and to educate and inform patrons about the crucial role cork forests play in curbing climate change. So be sure to save your old wine corks and bring them into the store to help fill the  collection bin.

Stop by Savor Wine Boutique for weekly in-store wine tastings, monthly classes as well as special events throughout the year!
