Three Blind Mice (Lilburn)

have to be honest. When I first heard of Three Blind Mice located at a strip mall in Lilburn, Georgia of all places, I imagined some cookie-cutter restaurant with a few bottles of your standard wines behind the counter and calling that a “wine bar”. Unlike other Metro-Atlanta neighborhoods such as Virginia Highland, Decatur or Buckhead, Lilburn is not exactly known for trendy or chic places like this.

That’s why when I first walked through the doors for the Wines of South Africa tasting, I was pleasantly astonished. The attention to detail here is phenomenal…the carefully detailed tasting notes for each of the wines presented, the wall sconces made from old wine barrels, refurbished furniture pieces, even books on markets of Provence all add to the special ambiance.

Matthew Murphy, owner, wine guru, and oh yeah, head chef at Three Blind Mice studied wine as well as culinary arts in France, bringing his passion to the Lilburn neighborhood. The name is a combination of the three partners who first created the venture, as well as the concept of “blind” tastings, where wines for the bar are selected not by producer, region or price but by character. Wine tastings are held every Wednesday from 7-9, with each week featuring different themes. By far, one of the best wine venues in Gwinnett!
