Roswell Provisions

My friend Nicole had been inviting me for wine tasting at Roswell Provisions for quite some time now. But Saturdays are usually busy for me and I never seemed to find the opportunity to go, especially since Roswell is a good distance from where I live. Last night I finally had some temps libre (free time) and made my way to join her and another friend, Christiane, for some wine at this enchanting little shop in the heart of Roswell.

I met owners Cyril and Kelly, who Kelly by the way has done an exquisite job with the interior decorating, infusing the boutique with a unique and old-world feel. Speaking of unique, the wine selection at Roswell Provisions while small, includes specialty wines that are not readily available in other places. One of my favorites is the beautiful collection of Rosés that I am anxiously looking forward to as we get into the warmer months of spring and summer.

Cyril and I had a nice conversation about adventures in wine tasting. We talked about how enjoyable it is to try different wines because there are so many out there and each wine is made uniquely. But despite the incredible tasting opportunities, most people tend to stay in their comfort zone buying only what they know. I’ll never forget his comment, “You’re not buying a car, it’s only wine“. I love that!

Later, I reflected on this conversation and realized the way many of us approach wine is the same way many approach life- afraid to step outside of what we know. America is known throughout the globe of being “the land of opportunity”. But yet, we go up and down the same exact aisles at the grocery store, buying the same exact items week after week. We do the same workout routines at the gym, go to the same restaurants, and listen to the same pre-set stations on Pandora. But why not try a different genre? Whether it’s trying a new recipe, meeting new friends, traveling to new destinations, the world is full of beautiful and exciting opportunities waiting for us to give a chance.

So if you’re one who’s comfort zone is Chardonnay or Merlot or what have you, I promise….trying something different such as a dry Riesling, a Vouvray or Cabernet Franc blend will not cause the world to come to an end! Like Cyril says, it’s only wine.

Can’t wait to try this Altesse from the Savoie region in southern France that Monsieur Cyril recommend himself.
