Barcelona Wine Bar (Inman Park)

If you’ve ever dreamed of experiencing Spain’s tapas culture, beautiful people, charcutería, and best of all amazing Spanish wines, well have no worries because you don’t have to go too far. Atlanta’s first suburb, Inman Park, is home to Barcelona Wine Bar, which offers all of the above to the community and visitors alike. Okay, so maybe it’s not exactly the same ambiance as Barcelona in Espagna. But….whenever my friends and I sit to enjoy a bottle of vino on the outdoor patio, it feels as though we have jet-setted across the “pond” to a lively outdoor café in Europe.

I first learned about Barcelona Inman Park while doing a search for wine bars in Atlanta. As usual, I went to “like” them on Facebook so that I could stay current on their events and more importantly, to view people’s comments. One Sunday afternoon, a couple of friends and I were looking for a place to have our travel meeting. I suggested Barcelona because we had never been there before, and since we’re always open to trying someplace new, we figured why not stop by and see what it’s all about?

Right off the bat, I noticed that the wine list here is absolutely amazing! Thanks to Gretchen Thomas, wine and spirits director for Barcelona Restaurant Group, the wine menu is not only diverse, but is loaded with high quality wines at all different price points. And best of all…every Sunday is half off bottles of wines. You can’t beat that!

Here, while a large part of the list includes wines from Spain, you’ll also find an extensive selection of wines from all over the globe including Portugal, Italy, France, Argentina, Chile, United States, Austria, Germany, Hungary, and even Uruguay! There’s everything from bubblies, sherries, ports, and a plentiful assortment of vinos blancos (white wines), vinos rosados (rosé wines) and vinos tintos (red wines). For pairings, Barcelona offers beautiful tapas dishes of vegetables, fish, meats and desserts. One of my favorites is the charcutería which is a platter of fine cheeses, salami and sausages. You’re able to select 3 varieties and mix and match cheeses or meats as you wish. It’s great!

Another point I want to add is the atmosphere. As one of the friends remarked the last time we visited, you feel as though you are truly welcomed to stay and enjoy Barcelona Inman Park. Unlike most other places that hurry customers out the door as the server delivers the check with the fake smile announcing “I’ll take this when you’re ready“, all while you’re still chewing on your food (that’s so annoying)…the rhythm at Barcelona is consistent with wine bars in Spain in that you’re invited to sit and enjoy the ambiance for as long as you wish. On one occasion, a couple of friends and I watched several staff people come and go and realized we were there through several work shifts!

Out of the places I’ve visited so far in Atlanta, Barcelona is an absolute favorite and definitely worth visiting.
