Jacquemart André
While the art collections inside the Louvre and Musée D’Orsay are without question some of the most impressive and grandest in the world, I find that the visit itself can at times be overwhelming. There’s a multitude of tour buses, long lines, and the massive spaces can at first glance seem impossible to navigate. So for a change, I headed to one of Paris’ lesser known museums, Musée Jacquemart André.
Edouard Jacquemart and his wife Nélie André were a wealthy couple who lived in Paris during the 19th century in this mansion, now a museum. Having no children, they dedicated much of their time and fortunes in decorating their home with art they passionately collected from their travels. This intimate museum gives a sneak “post-view” of aristocratic Paris in the 1800’s. Here you’ll find works by Botticelli, Fragonard, Boucher, Bellini, and Mantega. Expositions are also featured regularly making the visit even more enjoyable and rewarding.
