Habana Vieja (Day 2)
After a tasty traditional Cuban breakfast prepared by the ladies at our Airbnb Casa, we took a short taxi ride to explore Habana Vieja (Old Havana).
Old Havana, known as Habana Vieja, is so charming. The small streets, outdoor cafés, art galleries, plazas, and beautiful historic architecture give it a European feel. There is so much to see and do here that one day is simply not enough. But here are several highlights of what we did on Day 2 and visiting the old town….
Abdallah Mosque
Classical music performance and cocktails at Hotel Los Frailes
Hotel Los Frailes is an old friars’ hostel. The ground level which is open to the public features an indoor courtyard and bar serving coffee, cappuccinos, and of course rum cocktails. The staff dressed in the clothes of Franciscan monks, the classical music, and decor create an atmosphere of medieval times.
Old Havana mansions now turned into art galleries and museums
Habana 1791 Perfumery
Located in this 18th century mansion, Habana 1791 is both a perfume museum and boutique. Here you can choose among their different fragrances and fill up bottles in various sizes.

Zoé at Plaza Vieja (Old Square)
Plaza Vieja was once a residential area and the site of executions, processions, bullfights, and fiestas – all witnessed by Havana’s wealthiest citizens, who looked on from their balconies. Today it is a lively square surrounded by restaurants, merchants and live music.
Mom and ¨El Manisero¨ (the peanut vendor). El Manisero is apparently an important part of the Cuban culture, so important that even songs are made about him!
Plaza de la Catedral (Cathedral plaza)
La Bodeguita del Medio, famous bar where the mojito was created, and one of my favorite paladares (privately owned restaurants) Esto No Es Un Café are just around the corner from the cathedral.
