Where to eat near the Luxembourg Gardens
In Paris, there are literally thousands of restaurants to choose from. But with so many options, where do you even begin? To make things simple and easy, I’ve zeroed in on the Jardin du Luxembourg (Luxembourg Gardens) area, located in the sixth arrondissement, my home-sweet-home when I’m in Paris. Bonne dégustation!
Le Guynemer
Situated across the street from the Porte Vavin entrance to the Luxembourg Gardens, this place has an authentic Paris bistro vibe. It’s one of those old-school restaurants where there is no website or online reservation system. People call or simply just walk-in. The food reminds me of home-style comfort food. From the cocktails, to the main course, to the dessert, everything here is so good.

Bread & Roses
The first time that I came here was when I stopped by to pick up a pastry for the road after walking through the Luxembourg Gardens. While at the counter, I saw that it wasn’t just a bakery, but also a café with table service. The food looked so good, especially the quiche…something about how they prepare the crust and the seasonal ingredients that are used. For dessert I had the tarte-au-citron (lemon tarte) which was to die for.

Le Bon Saint Pourçain
Over the years, I’ve walked by this place so many times and always had it in mind to go. But out of sight, out of mind and eventually it fell off my radar. It wasn’t until a friend mentioned recently how much she liked and I put this back on my list. The open kitchen restaurant is on a quiet street by the St. Sulpice church and is known for its inventive dishes. The dining room is small with just a few tables and so reservations are necessary.

Clasico Argentino
Honest to goodness, these are some of the best empanadas that I’ve ever had, anywhere, including Stateside and the Caribbean. They offer savory and sweet varieties, with several vegetarian options. In the past I’ve ordered them to-go and enjoyed these at the Luxembourg Gardens, and of course dine-in is an option as well. They’re also known for ice-cream which I have not tried yet. But it’s on my list!

La Maison du Jardin
This one is a true neighborhood gem that I came across just while walking around one day. Here you’ll find traditional French dishes from a modern point of view. Classy, sophisticated, tasty, and all the things that make it look, feel and taste like Paris.
27 Rue de Vaugirard, 75006
Café Pavane
Pavane café sits directly across from the French Senate at the Luxembourg Gardens. While their posted hours say that they’re open throughout the day, the kitchen only serves lunch from noon until 2:30pm-ish. One of their specialties is the pierogi assortment that comes with different fillings. That and a salade verte will hit the spot. After the lunch hours, Pavane welcomes all for tea or coffee and pastries and chocolates by Jean-Paul Hévin.
